Calendula, also known as marigold, is an annual member of the daisy family that is native to western Asia, Europe and the Mediterranean region. The whole flower heads are added to soups and broths. Marigold flowers are also used to produce a light, yellow dye and natural food coloring. The flowers also add a mild, pleasant flavor to herbal tea blends.
